10 Links Till Midnight

10Links.Net Logo

How Does It Work?

10Links.Net is powered by a simple idea. A front page with 10 links on it, one of which could be yours. Every day at 12 AM CST users submit there sites as fast as possible to 10links.net and the first 10 legitimate links that make it into their system are the ones that become displayed on their front page for 24 hours. Simple concept, but I think it will work and gain in popularity.

You may submit as many times as you like and there is no limit to the number of days in a row you could be in the top ten. In fact, 10Links.Net may give out prizes later down the road to those who can maintain a front page presence.

10Links provides a reminder service which will send you an email one hour before midnight. I would advise you to sit on the submit page with your information already filled out so that when midnight arrives, you simply click the submit button and hope for the best. Once the day of links is over with, they are moved into the Archive to forever be preserved on the internets. So asides from the initial boost in traffic, there is a chance that you can receive residual traffic from their archives. You can keep up to date as to who makes the front page by subscribing to their RSS feed.

Conclusion:

Simple idea, with simple execution. Considering this site is brand spanking new, I am not sure how much traffic your site would receive if you did make the top 10, but considering the first two days of links have filled up, their are enough people out their submitting links which has created quite a bit of competition. I’d love to see a traffic log or graphic of 10Links.NET, especially around the midnight hour. I’ll be giving the service try myself on Friday night. Probably not the best time to give it a shot but it’s worth a try.

Who’s Amung Us Update

http://whos.amung.us

Since the launch of Graphs.Amung.Us, the Whos.Amung.Us site has seen a dramatic increase in the time it takes to load the page. I’ve also noticed that the little icon used to display how many concurrent users are on your site at one time has occasionally disappeared. The icon, when clicked on, is also producing Internal-500 errors which is shining proof that the infrastructure behind the service is maxed out. Christopher Shannon has recently posted a blog entry that clarifies the issues currently ongoing:

We’ve been experiencing a huge surge in traffic lately, and our current infrastructure is stretched to the max right now, but we are working as fast as we can to get things back up to the blazing fasts speeds we used to enjoy, so just bare with us for a couple more days.

Good thing they recently added Google ads to a few of their pages or else WhosAmungUs would probably go belly up.

Amung.Us Crew Rolls Out Updates

The crew who brought you the free real-time concurrent user stats widget who’s.amung.us has unveiled a brand new service called graphs.amung.us.

For the graphs by year and by month we use averaged data from the hours and days to give you a better idea of how your site is doing. By day and by hour are the actual real time data points so you can see exactly what is happening. – graphs.amung.us team

This new graphing widget allows website owners to conveniently check how many concurrent people were on their site in the past, down to the hour. The graph features four different views: by year, by month, by day, and by hour This is an example of what the graph looks like while embedded into a web page.

The graphs are also search able either via text or by clicking on the calendar icon and selecting a date. Here is an example of a graph containing data that you can search http://graphs.amung.us/graph/dzsg93pq/monthly/latest

Who's amung us widget colorwheelAside from the new graphing service, the amung.us team has published a brand new color wheel which finally allows web masters to change the color of the who’s.amung.us widget so that it can blend into your design. This was always a problem with the old widget as it was sometimes difficult to blend into a website design.

Last but not least, the amung.us website has been redesigned so that each widget’s individual webpage is linked to every other webpage. Excellent choice on their part as this allows browsers to seamlessly travel between one widget page to the other.
