Slikstr Is Hiring – Whats Slikstr?

Slikstr.com

Slikstr.com has an opening available in their NYC office for a Creative Outreach Director. What that person is in charge of doing is beyond me, but it sounds important. Instead of posting a job opening on Monster.com, Slikstr has published a YouTube video asking whomever wants to apply to send them a video response which would be their resume. Here ya go.

So what the heck is Slikstr?

Slikstr is the worlds first user created company. They are creating the next generation of Web 2.0 technologies by directly reaching out to their users and basing much of their decision making on “the wisdom of crowds”. They recently closed a first round of private equity funding and they are developing their website for beta testing later this year. The company is headquartered in New York City and is privately held.

Sounds to me like this could be one heck an online Web 2.0 reality show. Here is a YouTube video response from someone who is REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, hoping to get the job.

While watching the first video, did you feel as if it was shot sometime during the 80s? It seemed like a pretty cheesy looking job opening advertisement. For the woman who wants the job, do you think she’ll get it? If she does, will you be watching her generated video content?

Skype Blaming Redmond For Outage

Skype.com LogoAfter initially telling users that the downtime experienced last week was due to an authentication glitch, Skype is now blaming Microsoft for the downtime. Here is the supposedly real reason why their service went down:

“The disruption was initiated by a massive restart of our user’s computers across the globe within a very short timeframe as they re-booted after receiving a routine software update.” This is presumably the Windows updates that were sent out on Patch Tuesday last week, which required the PC to be restarted.

“The abnormally high number of restarts affected Skype’s network resources,” the company adds. “This caused a flood of log-in requests, which, combined with the lack of peer-to-peer network resources, prompted a chain reaction that had a critical impact.”

Maybe it’s just me, but this seems like a lame excuse. Come on guys, Microsoft can’t be blamed for everything. This excuse sounds like something those guys from The Onion would cook up.

Web 1.0 And Web 2.0 Visual Differences

Sizlopedia.com Logo

Sizlopedia has published an article which highlights the visual differences between web 1.0 and web 2.0. These differences are illustrated using a translated graphic, which simply shows how webmasters used to manage their website, compared to how webmasters of today manage their sites.

Web 1.0 Web 2.0 Visual Difference

The following questions were asked near the end of this article, Do you like the evolving web culture? Do you think that web 2.0 has helped users get more interactive or do you think it is just a propaganda term created to wipe out the old web standards?

I think web 2.0 has created a ton of opportunities. Ideas are turning into reality for many people and because of web 2.0, the barrier to entry is practically nil. Of course, the barrier to entry or lack thereof could be considered a drawback.

At any rate, I think social-networking is out of control and we are being deluged in web 2.0 startups on a daily basis. I think it will alright though, considering the market aka userbase will determine which of these startups stick around for the long haul, or which ones will die off.

Yappd Support Question Answered

Yappd.comYappd, the non Twitter Killer has responded to my support email. In my email, I asked them how to add images to Yappd postings. Here is what they replied to me with.

The way you add pictures right now is only by cell phone through picture message. Early next week we will add photos upload from the website.

You read it here first folks. Next week, Yappd will allow users to send images along with their posts. I don’t want to bag on Yappd anymore than I already have, (see my review Yappd Reviewed – Non Twitter Killer ) But this feature should of been released with the service on day 1. However, I’d say thanks to Yappd for responding to my email.

JJot Pushes Out New Version

Jjot.com logoJjot has pushed out a new version of their lightning fast, note taking software. The new version now has a visual indicator which lets you know if your note is publicly shared, or not. You can now ‘pop-out‘ notes to their own browsing window for easier note taking.

You can now determine if your note is public or not

Have you ever wanted to edit just one note, in its own window, and not have your entire Jjot noteboard open in your browser? Well, now you can. Just click the menu in the title bar of your note, and select the new option “pop-out.” Your note will then open in its own window. You can edit it and maximize it like usual, and it will save itself every few seconds. Feel free to close your main Jjot noteboard in your browser if you want to; the popped-out note will stay open.

If you have no idea what JJot is, be sure to check out my full fledged review, Jjot Review – Take Notes In A Flash

Break.com Unviels Customizable Video Player

Break.com LogoAs reported by Mashable.com , Break.com has unveiled a new feature which allows users to customize the embedded video player to their liking similar to YouTube.

You must have a registered account on Break.com before you can create your own embedded player. Users can choose between a preset design, or you can customize the player through a series of background colors and text.

Break.com is my favorite video site that I have been watching for over two years now. I’m happy to see them keeping pace with the other video sites out their on the net. This is a crowded space to be in right now but, I feel that Break.com will hang around for quite a long time as the videos they have on their site are first class comedy. Here is a video, which highlights the new customizable video player.

10Links Consumes SPAM Sandwich

10Links.net Logo

10Links.net the site I reviewed a few days ago has temporarily gone under because of the vast amount of spam that was getting into their site queue. This is easily understandable considering their submission form, at the very least, didn’t provide a CAPTCHA image to ensure that human beings were the ones submitting websites.

10Links.net has vowed to keep the archive of links public while informing us that they are currently in the secondary stages of their next project. Don’t ask me what their next project is because they didn’t tell me! Whatever they are working on, I’m sure they will be using some sort of Anti-Spam measure this time around.
