Skype Releases Version 3.5

Skype.com LogoSkype, the popular VoIP client has released version 3.5 of their software. This release includes a number of additional features. Some of these features include:

  • Sharing Videos: Contacts can now watch your favorite videos when they click on your mood message.
  • Video Snapshots: You can now captures snapshots of friends or family during video calls. You can then use a frame from that video capture as your profile picture.
  • Skype Prime: Skype Prime has launched into Beta and is a global marketplace for sharing and learning skills. You can get paid to helpe people around the world by offering all kinds of advice, or use the service to learn something new. In effect, you can now create your own help line and be paid for it.
  • Call Transfers: Skype users can now transfer calls to Skype Contacts. If you are a Skype Pro Subscriber, you can transfer calls to mobile and landlines as well.

That Skype Prime feature seems interesting considering many Americans are becoming fed up with calling support centers filled with folks who can’t speak our native tongue fluently, resulting in a massive amount of frustration. Perhaps we can take support matters into our own hands.

Disabled Hotlinking Protection And Other Stuff

I disabled hotlink protection today after discovering that the HTML email subscription emails were not displaying images. After today, all images used within an article should now show up if your viewing the HTML version of the email.

Tomorrow, I will be going through the archive and properly tagging items that haven’t received any tags due to the plugin being installed  after a certain amount of posts were already published. This should help make discovering those older articles a bit easier.

I will also try to figure out why the search function of this site doesn’t seem to be finding things I think it should be. I’m also going to try to get a hold of the author of the SEARCH EVERYTHING plugin, to see if I can get that to work, so users can search within comments and various other parts of the site that are not covered by the built in WordPress search.

Just wanted to pass those updates along.

Kontactr Update:

I was kontacted by the folks from Kontactr yesterday in regards to my review and they really appreciated it. They also gave me a small update as to the features they are working on.

We are working on allowing the users the ability to customize the AJAX form too. Also the ability to change the “Sender” of all the mails sent through Kontactr as “message@kontactr.com“. This will let you filter your messages more easily.

The ability to customize your Ajax powered contact form would be a big plus. If they wanted to, they could probably develop a social network where users could share their contact form designs with one another. This may be a stretch of the imagination but I think it’s certainly possible.
