		<description><![CDATA[I fully agree. This is simply not fair on users. I do, however, think that there are compelling reasons for google and other software makers to keep their creations under the &quot;R&amp;D&quot; umbrella.

&lt;strong&gt;Reason #1&lt;/strong&gt;: The rapid change of technology, particularly bits that pertain to their own offerings.

&lt;strong&gt;Reason #2&lt;/strong&gt;: Tax deductions. Many governments provide generous incentives and tax deductions for &quot;research and development&quot; that simply aren&#039;t available by other means. Why would Google - for example - want to make g-mail a final release and close that lucrative stream of taxpayer funding?

It stinks, I know, but that&#039;s just how it is...
